A Twitter user has posted a video on the microblogging site showing his Macbook Pro emitting fire smoke. According to the user who goes by the name White Panda, the laptop ‘exploded’ yesterday afternoon ‘during normal use’. However, no harm or injury was caused due to the explosion.
“Yesterday afternoon my MacBook Pro exploded during normal use. It was on my lap, plugged in, and suddenly started to spew smoke out both sides. I quickly placed it on the floor where it popped, the smoke increased, and it caught fire. Toxic smelling smoke filled my house triggering smoke and CO alarms. No one was injured, thankfully, but there was some damage to my home”, said the user on Reddit explaining the incident.
The MacBook is a 2015 model with 15-inch Retina display. In the 13-second long video posted on video, one can see the laptop emitting smoke. It is alleged that the incident might have happened because of a battery issues.
The user claims that he was using an Apple adapter to charge the laptop when the incident happened. He further said that the laptop has never had any third-party repairs.
The user took the laptop to the local store where he was told that the company will contact him 24 hours after it is kept in a fire-proof state. Inquiring about the device, he was later informed that the incident has been ‘escalated’ and should hear from the firm in five days.
Though unfortunate, the ‘explosion’ is an isolated event. There have been previous reports of smartphone catching fire and bursting into flames. But of a laptop is a rare event.
